Bad Ass vs Bad Girl

By now we've all seen Miley's VMA performance.Or at least we've seen pictures.
In my opinion, it was distasteful. There was no creativity.
No respect.
For her fans, viewers, Paula or herself. I would say Liam but are they still together?...
Just classless. I was embarrassed.
She feels like she has so much to prove when in reality she doesn't.

At least when Lady Gaga and Rihanna perform there's art and talent displayed.

How is it that Rihanna can wear cannabis leaves on her clothing,
post pictures of her smoking it and perform provocatively and still manage to get respect?
She's an artist. She doesn't have anything to prove.
She's a bad ass.

How can Gaga walk around an awards show in a thong and sea shell ensemble and it's okay?

It's what she's done that led up to that that makes it acceptable.
She changed the way people thought about fashion.
Hell, she showed up to an awards show in an egg.
She dressed as a man. The girl can sing.
She's an artist. She's still respectable.
She's a bad ass.

What about Selena? Her dress was waaaaay more revealing
at the VMA than Miley's red carpet outfit.
And yet...

 *crickets*
She carries herself in a completely different manner.
She's slowly transitioning into more mature roles.
Even the "edgy" role she got in Spring Breakers wasn't edgy.
The movie itself was but her role wasn't.
I think she's doing a fantastic job of transitioning.

She's a bad ass.

I think Miley is trying to prove she's a bad ass when she's not.
She's trying so hard to get away from her old image that
it's hurting whatever new image she's trying to create.

I'm not saying I don't twerk. Because it is fun.
Even when you don't know what you're doing...
ahemMaggieHarrelsonahem

I was a fan of Miley Cyrus.
I even liked the We Can't Stop video.
At least that was creative. It was different.
But after Sunday I lost so much respect for her.

Not that anyone cares.

I just see the future of entertainment and it makes me quiver.

It seems like a competition of who can shock us the most.
Who can have the least amount of clothes on without actually being naked.
Where's the talent? Where's the art?

What is my daughter going to see when she's twelve?
Who is she going to want to be like?
I can only hope and pray it will be the Virgin Mary
but we'll see how that goes.

Last Days of Summer

The air is cooler (by cooler I mean lower than 85 degrees)
and August is almost over.

Fall is on its way!
It's been so hot and humid this summer.
But now fall is slowly creeping so
it's nice to be able to go to the park and not fear death.

So see ya, summer.

Hello, fall, Starbucks specialty drinks
and imaginary photo shoots of jumping in leaves.
Just me? Awk.

2013 MTV Video Music Awards

Can we just take a moment out our boring Monday and
talk about the 2013 MTV video music awards?
I've been watching them since I was ten years old.
I love the performances, fashion and obviously the music videos.
Music videos give artists a chance to tell a story visually not just audibly.
How many videos were waaay different than what you imagined it would be?
I love that about videos.
Plus, it gives MTV a reason to get back to their roots.
MUSIC TELEVISION aka MUSIC VIDEOS.
On to the show.

Lady Gaga.
The queen of performing. I thought it was odd,
over the top and totally Gaga.
And while she's the queen, nothing will top the
2009 VMA performance for "Papparazzi".
 Incredible.

Taylor Swift telling OneD to shut the fuck up was just.
Like, I can't even. Too funny.

Selena winning an MTV award was mind blowing to me.
To me, she looks like a five year old.

And Miley and Robin Thicke... so many questions.
Like did Miley look in the mirror before she performed?
Were Liam and Paula watching?
Why didn't Amazon Ashley stay?
Was this performance supposed to make me feel uncomfortable or...

And not too sure how Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
beat J. Cole, Drake, Kendrick or A$AP.
 But congratulations?

Justin Timberlake. Such a nice mini concert you gave.
He is a musical genius. Performing god.
 *applause*
I wonder what Britney Spears is thinking right now.
When NSYNC performed, my childhood was alive for
 seven seconds but died shorty.
Mainly because Justin cut them off but also
because they were NOT the same NSYNC I remember.
Give me all or give me nothing!

I can't with A$AP new hair. No. I do not like. At all.

Oh, hey J.Hud. Performing with Macklemore?
Okay. Sure. I'll take it.

Not familiar with the Austin Mahone kid.
But what a little cutie!
The music can be muted but he's fun to look at.

Drake.
He started out sounding like a little betch. Then suddenly turned up.
Where is your head? I don't follow.

Bruno Mars.
I just love his baby ass. So tiny and talented. I can't deal.
When is he coming to Atlanta?

And last. Literally last.
Katy. So much hype. And yet so little follow through.
I just like her jump roping skills.
This show made me miss the old VMA's...
Where Kanye interrupted Taylor, Britney walked out with a snake,
when Lil' Kim showed up with one boob out...
Ah, those were the days.

Maybe We're Not Ready...

That's what I want to tell people when they ask me when Devon and I are getting married.

Like, Idk.

They'll be all,
Have you thought about it?
Duh.

But you love each other.
Obvi.

And you have a child together.
Where is Bella anyway?

And you live together.
He likes my cooking.

And you plan on having a future together.
Yeah.

But you don't want to get married.
No....At least not yet.

Oh.
Yeah.

We value marriage and the idea of marriage that we just want to make sure the time is right.

I mean, we're young. Maybe we just don't want to feel rushed. (Having a child does that)
Maybe it just isn't our time. Yet.
I'd rather take my time than to rush and end up in a divorce.

Marriage doesn't make us any more of a family if we get married.
And it sure as hell doesn't make us any less of family if we're not.

I've grown up in a church with certain beliefs and I know it's unacceptable to many.
But things didn't happen the way we imagined and I don't live my life for other people.

I didn't give away Bella when others thought it was best.
I knew that wasn't for me.
I listened to myself.

I've learned to just do what feels right and makes me happy.
It's probably why I live with less regret.
I don't regret doing anything because I know I'm doing what I want.
Even if it's for a split second.

Because at the end of the day, it's my life.
I have to live with the choices I make.
No one else.
I just want to be happy and stay happy.
And I'm happy right where I am.

So hop off.

This is what happened Thursday

Today was fab for two reasons.

One.

Bella read her first words today! We practiced 'bat' then 'cat' then I randomly wrote 'wet' and she read it all by herself! I am so proud of her. I just have to find more ideas of how to help her read more. Any book suggestions?

Two.

It was below 75 degrees.

Okay so maybe the second isn't as impressive as the first.
But with the first signs of fall approaching, it makes me all giddy.

Okay fine, three.

It's almost Friday.

Midnight Madness

Last night I woke up to Bella screeeeeaming.

Like she was terrified.

She kept yelling for me so I ran to her room.

I asked what was wrong and
she asks, "Do you know the alphabet?" I sat confused.

"Wait. What?"

"THE ALPHABET, MAMAAA!"

"Yes, Bell, I know the alphabet."

"You know it?"

"Yes."

"Okay and the elephant?"

"What elephant?"

"THE ELEPHANT ON MY MOVIEEE!...can I watch it?"

"No, it's midnight. It's time for bed. You can watch it tomorrow."

"BUT. BUT. MAMA. THE ELEPHANT."

So I sat and rubbed her back and told her to go back to sleep.

She literally fell asleep within seconds.

Like, what happened?

Just when I thought my nights were becoming normal again...

Styles Every Curly Girl Should Master

As every Curly Girl knows, we are limited to hairstyles.
But what hair styles we have, we need to master.

If you're a curly hair vet like me,
you probably already have these under your belt.
If not, I have a few favorite go-to styles that I want to share.
They're simple, cute and totally appropriate for my fellow Curly Girls.

The Headband:

Whether your hair is up or down you neeeed to know how to style your hair with a headband.
It's one of the easiest ways to add something to an everyday style.
I love this because you can dress it up or down.

Braids:

They're so versatile.
Do a side fishtail (in picture), french,
or you can even do a few, small braids all over to create a boho vibe
 while decreasing volume.

Curly Girl Top Knot:

By far the easiest and my go to style.
But this style can go from effortless and chic to a hot ass mess in a nanosecond.
In my version, I left a few wispy bangs because
I have a Tyra forehead and CANNOT have all of my hair pulled back.

Accessorize:

I really like hair accessories.
Bows, hats, headpieces, feathers and in this case, a necklace.
I like them all.
It can change any vibe to any outfit in a moment.
Simple and trendy.
What's not to love?

Oh, and here's a link of the products I use.
Hope these styles help give you ideas to switch up your everyday style.
Because we all know variety is the spice of life :)
